Soft is hard(er)

Leaders tend to think that you should concentrate your efforts on things easily measurable (through a simple KPI). If something is difficult to measure, then they believe they will never know if they are winning or losing. Without a KPI, they may think that they are potentially wasting resources and ruin their financial performance. The same kind of leaders tend to struggle with culture, because they find it very difficult to measure.

Yet, ignore culture, and it will backlash and potentially develop into a beast, maybe toxic, possibly out of control. And that very beast will impact your P&L big time.
